5.0 / 5.0

Overview

Udyam Registration is the official MSME registration system introduced by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises on July 1, 2020, replacing the earlier Udyog Aadhaar registration. It provides a permanent, paperless Udyam Registration Certificate to enterprises classified as Micro (investment ≤ Rs.1 cr, turnover ≤ Rs.5 cr), Small (investment ≤ Rs.10 cr, turnover ≤ Rs.50 cr), or Medium (investment ≤ Rs.50 cr, turnover ≤ Rs.250 cr).

Udyam Registration is free of cost on the Udyam portal and uses Aadhaar-based verification with automatic PAN and GST data linkage. Registration entitles the enterprise to priority sector lending from banks, collateral-free loans under CGTMSE scheme, 50% subsidy on patent/trademark fees (for registered startups), preference in government procurement tenders, and protection against delayed payments under MSMED Act Section 16.

Processing time: Same day (online). Government fee: Nil. MFiling professional charges: from Rs.999 inclusive of registration and certificate download.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Udyam Registration different from Udyog Aadhaar?
Yes. Udyog Aadhaar (the old system) has been replaced by Udyam Registration from July 1, 2020. Existing Udyog Aadhaar holders were required to migrate to Udyam Registration. New businesses must register on the Udyam portal. Udyam Registration is more rigorous — it uses PAN and GST data for investment and turnover verification, whereas Udyog Aadhaar was self-declared.
Can a service sector business register under Udyam?
Yes. Both manufacturing and service sector businesses can register under Udyam. The investment and turnover thresholds are the same for both sectors after the MSMED Amendment Act 2020 removed the separate service sector classification. IT companies, consultancies, restaurants, and other service businesses qualify as Micro, Small, or Medium based on annual turnover.
