IEC — mandatory 10-digit code for all import and export transactions in India. Lifetime validity. DGFT registration within 1–3 working days.
An Import Export Code (IEC) is a unique 10-digit identification number issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry. IEC is the master identification number for any business or individual intending to import goods into or export goods from India. Without a valid IEC, no import/export transaction can be processed — customs will not clear the shipment, and banks will not process foreign currency remittances.
IEC has lifetime validity — once issued, it does not expire and does not require periodic renewal, making it a one-time cost. However, annual updates on the DGFT portal (between April and June each year) are mandatory to keep the IEC active. MFiling files IEC applications on the DGFT portal within 1–3 working days with complete documentation.
Government fee: Rs.500 (one-time). Processing time: 1–3 working days. MFiling professional charges: from Rs.2,899 inclusive of document preparation, portal filing, and certificate download.
