Overview

The Tamil Nadu Real Estate Regulatory Authority (TNRERA) regulates real estate transactions under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 (RERA). Under TNRERA, all real estate agents who facilitate the sale or purchase of properties in registered RERA projects must register as agents with TNRERA. Operating without TNRERA registration exposes agents to penalties up to Rs.10,000 per day of default.

TNRERA agent registration requires background verification, submission of business details, and payment of registration fee. The registration is valid for 5 years and must be renewed. Registered agents receive a unique TNRERA Agent Registration Number that must be quoted in all property transaction documents and project marketing materials. TNRERA Verification (15–30 days)

Authority verifies submitted documents and conducts background check.

Receive TNRERA Agent Registration Certificate (Within 30 days)

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a TNRERA agent registration apply to all states or only Tamil Nadu?
RERA is a state-subject in India — each state has its own RERA authority and registration. A TNRERA registration is valid only for Tamil Nadu. Agents operating in multiple states (e.g., also in Karnataka or Andhra Pradesh) must separately register with the respective state RERA authority.
